Nothing here needs a decision today. It is written down so that what is possible, what it would take, and what it depends on are all in one place — and so that neither of us is guessing at what the other is thinking.
The system delivered on Monday is finished. Not a first attempt, not a trial — a working version that does the whole job it was scoped for, with 2,771 customers in it and every message going out under your hand. It also keeps its own record — every contact added, tag confirmed, campaign run and message sent, counted on the day it happened.
Further development on it is now paused, deliberately. Not because it has run out of road — the opposite. Everything worth building next depends on information the shop does not record yet, and building on a guess is how software ends up impressive and useless.
So this note is the road. Each thing below says what it is, what it solves, and what it needs from you. Some need nothing but a yes. One needs a habit.
A shop that runs on memory runs at the speed of the person remembering. You know who bought the bridal set in March, because you were standing there. You know whose daughter is getting married, because someone mentioned it at the counter. That knowledge is real and it is worth more than any software.
But it lives in one head. It arrives by accident. It cannot be in two places at once, and it does not survive a bad week.
A system does not replace what you know. It catches it. The thing you noticed on a Tuesday is still there in November. The customer who bought in March gets a message in March next year without anyone remembering to send it. The work of the shop keeps getting done on the days you are tired, travelling, or dealing with something else entirely.
This is what customer relationship management actually means. It is not sending messages. Messages are the last step, the visible one. The system is knowing who, when, and why — and being right about it three years from now.
Relay knows every customer's name and number, and — as you work through Review — their community, their language, and who they are to you. What it does not know is what anybody has ever bought. That single gap is what stands between the system you have and every capability listed further down this page.
I am not going near your billing. That stays exactly as it is. What I would build is a small, separate input — a screen with four fields, nothing else — and you choose how it gets fed:
Either works. It is your call, and it can change month to month. What matters is that it happens, because from the day it starts, the system stops guessing and starts knowing — and everything below becomes possible in the order you want it.
| What gets built | What it solves |
|---|---|
| Post-purchase care, queued automatically Every evening, the day's buyers are turned into messages and left waiting for you |
Right now nobody is thanked, checked on, or reminded about care and cleaning — because nobody has time to remember. This makes it the default rather than the exception, and it costs you the seconds it takes to read and tap. |
| Review requests at the right moment | Two or three days after a purchase, by name, from the person who served them. That is when people say yes. Asked at random, or asked at the counter while they are paying, they politely don't. |
| The purchase anniversary | A year to the day since he bought her that chain. No shop in your market sends that message, and it is the single warmest reason to make contact that exists — it needs no offer attached to work. |
| Real customer value, not guessed | Who your top hundred customers actually are, by what they have spent rather than by who you remember. This is the "price range" filter that was removed from the build, because it could not be filled honestly without this data. |
| Accurate dormancy | "Has not bought in eighteen months" is a very different list from "have not messaged them in eighteen months" — and it is the one worth reactivating. |
| Referral asks that land | Ask everyone and it reads as a mailshot. Ask the forty people who have bought three times and it reads as trust being returned. |
| Scheme and instalment follow-ups | Nobody has to keep the running list of who is due in their head or in a register. |
| What actually works, in numbers | The shop already sees what was done — which runner, which language, which day, how much of it. What purchase records add is the other half: which of it brought people through the door. After a year, the shop stops arguing about what works and starts reading it. |
None of this is theoretical and none of it is far away. The database, the message engine, the queue and the calendar are all already built and running. Every item above is an addition to a working system, not a new one.
A system is not only for the owner. Most of what is described above turns into work that someone has to actually do — and work with no shape gets done by whoever happens to remember, which means unevenly, which means it stops.
Each person opens the same screen and sees the same thing: today's messages to send, today's follow-ups, today's review asks. Finite, visible, and finished when it is finished. Nobody has to be told what the work is, and nobody has to guess whether it was done.
What was queued, what went out and what is still waiting are already on the performance screen. What staff accounts add is the missing word — who. Not to look over anyone's shoulder, but so that you can stop asking, and so that a quiet week shows up as a number rather than as a feeling.
Access can be split. A staff member can be given the send queue and nothing else — no contact list to export, no ability to change anyone's details, no view of the whole book. They drain the queue; you keep the database. That is a setting, not a rebuild.
This is where a system pays for itself twice. The first time is the customer who came back. The second is the twenty minutes a day nobody spends deciding what to do.
Worth being direct about this one, because it is the highest-leverage thing on this page and the easiest to do badly.
When someone in your area searches for a jeweller, what decides where they walk is the star rating and the number sitting next to it. Not the website, not the photographs — those matter after. A shop with 12 reviews and a shop with 200 are read as two different businesses, and the gap between them is not quality. It is process.
Reviews do not arrive because the work was good. Ninety-nine happy customers say nothing. They arrive because someone asked, at the right moment, in the right way:
Done as a habit, a shop like yours adds reviews steadily and permanently. It compounds: the rating pulls in strangers, the strangers become customers, the customers become the next reviews. It is the one part of marketing that keeps working after you stop paying for it.
It needs purchase records, for the same reason everything else does — the system has to know who bought and when, or it cannot ask at the right time or avoid asking twice.
Marketing for a jeweller in your market is not campaigns and it is not reach. It is the right message, to the right person, at the right moment, in the language they read. That is what has already been built, and it costs well under a rupee a message.
The order is what matters, more than the effort:
| Order | What | Cost to run |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Keep the customers you have. Occasion messages, post-purchase care, anniversaries | Near zero. Built and running |
| 2 | Get back the ones who drifted. Dormant reactivation against real purchase dates | Near zero. Needs purchase data |
| 3 | Make them bring others. Referral asks to proven buyers, reviews as a habit | Near zero. Needs purchase data |
| 4 | Be findable. Website, local search, the catalogue | One-time build, then almost nothing |
| 5 | Pay for strangers. Ads, boosted posts, influencers | Continuous, and the most expensive by far |
A customer who has already bought from you is several times more likely to buy again than a stranger is to buy once. So every rupee spent on step five is competing with a rupee spent on step one — and losing badly.
Steps one to three are almost entirely free to run once built, and they are aimed at 2,771 people who already know your name. That is the whole argument for doing them first. Step five is not wrong — it is simply last, and it works far better once the first four are in place, because by then a stranger who looks you up finds a real website, a real catalogue and two hundred reviews instead of a phone number.
Both are separate builds. Both are scoped and priced separately, and neither moves without your confirmation — nothing is being assumed here.
What it solves. Someone in your area searches for a jeweller and finds nothing of yours. Right now the shop is invisible to anyone who does not already know it exists, and the first thing a serious buyer does before a large purchase is look you up. A customer sent by a friend looks you up too — and finding nothing is not neutral, it costs trust that the referral had already earned.
The structure is already built and waiting: the design, the image handling, the local-search markup a search engine needs to place you on a map. What it needs from you is the shop's own words — the address, the hours, and an account of the shop in the way you would tell it.
This is the largest of the three, and the one with the most in front of it. It is not a page about the shop — it is the shop's stock, photographed once and then usable everywhere, permanently.
What it solves today. "Do you have something in a lighter chain?" currently costs a phone call, a description, and often a visit that leads nowhere. With a catalogue it costs one link. Every piece gets its own page, and when that link is sent on WhatsApp it opens as a card with the photograph and the price already showing — before anyone taps anything. It works after hours, which is when most people browse.
What it becomes at eighty pieces. One library, and the whole business points at it. A new-stock message carries a link to that piece, not a description of it. A Dhanteras message carries a link to the gold that suits the day. A customer asking about silver gets the silver, not a promise to send photographs later. Same library, different doors — and every one of those doors is a link that Relay is already built to send.
Right now the message system can carry a greeting and an offer. With a catalogue behind it, it can carry the piece. That is a different conversation with the same customer, and it is where the numbers actually move.
You asked about this, and the honest answer is that the catalogue is exactly where it starts. A shop cannot sell online without a photographed, described, priced list of what it has — that list is the catalogue. Build it once and the groundwork for selling is already done.
Silver first, when that day comes. Lower ticket, more standard pieces, and a first online purchase a stranger will actually risk. Nobody buys a bridal set from a website they have never bought from — but they will buy a silver chain, and the customer who buys the silver chain is the one who trusts you enough to walk in for the gold.
Selling online is a separate build with payment, delivery and returns attached to it, and it should be scoped on its own when you want it. The point here is only this: the catalogue is not a step towards it — it is the foundation of it, and none of it would need building twice.
This is worth saying plainly before either build starts. Both of these live or die on real photographs of real pieces. Stock images on a jewellery site are recognised instantly and cost more trust than having no images at all — a buyer spending sixty thousand rupees can tell, and what they conclude is that the pieces in the photographs are not the pieces in the shop.
For the website that is a set of good photographs, once. For the catalogue it is ongoing — every piece, as stock changes. That is real work and it sits on the shop's side, so it is better known now than discovered halfway through.
Worth stepping back for a moment, because the three things on this page are not three separate projects. They are one shop with three doors into it, and they were built that way on purpose.
| Door | Who walks through it | State |
|---|---|---|
| relay.solankijewellery.com | You and your staff. Private, behind a code. Where the shop reaches its customers | Live |
| solankijewellery.com | A stranger who searched, or a friend's referral checking you are real | Not built Name secured, groundwork laid. The build itself is days of work |
| catalogue.solankijewellery.com | Anyone you send a piece to, anyone who finds the shop online, and — when you want it — anyone who wants to buy from it | Not built Name secured, groundwork laid. The build is days of work and a photograph of every piece |
One domain carries all three, and that is the whole point. The sign-in code you get comes from that name. The link a customer opens carries that name. What Google shows a stranger is that name. It is the same shop every time — not a website from one place, a catalogue from another, and a tool with somebody else's brand on it.
Separately each one is useful. Together they close a loop that neither could close alone:
None of it needs to happen at once. What is already down and paid for is the ground the other two stand on — the name is bought, the mail is verified on it, and the first door is open and working. The website and the catalogue are real builds from here, each with its own scope and its own price. What they are not is a fresh start.
Everything on this page can be built. That is not in question. What decides any of it is whether it is worth its price to you, and that is your call every time — so it is worth being exact about how it runs.
The design, the interface, the database, the message engine, the security, the domain, the email, the writing on this page — one set of hands. Normally that is four suppliers, four invoices, four people explaining that the problem is one of the others.
It matters for two practical reasons. Decisions that would take a week of coordination take an afternoon, which is why 2,771 customers went from three broken spreadsheets to a working system in a fortnight. And nothing gets built that the person building it does not understand the point of — which is why the price-range filter was removed rather than shipped empty, and why 457 corrupted phone numbers were refused rather than quietly imported.
Both are legitimate. They are simply different, and the difference is worth choosing rather than drifting into.
Use Relay for festivals, new stock and rate updates. Confirm tags when you have an evening. Message 2,771 people properly, several times a year, for a few hundred rupees.
This is a real outcome and most shops your size have nothing close to it. It needs nothing further from either of us.
Start recording purchases. Turn the shop into something that remembers every customer, asks for a review at the right moment, notices when someone has drifted, gives the staff a scoped day, and can be looked up by a stranger and taken seriously.
Same foundation, same system. It becomes an operation rather than a message list.
The second one is not a bigger version of the first — it is a different way of running the shop, and it asks something of you rather than only of me. That is the honest version. It is also the one where the numbers move.
Read this whenever. When something on it becomes worth doing, say which one, and I will scope it properly before anything starts.
|---|---|---|
| relay.solankijewellery.com | आप और आपका स्टाफ।
